In a shocking turn of events at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, Wednesday night’s highly anticipated Uganda Premier League clash turned into a one-sided affair—literally. While NEC FC arrived ready for battle under the floodlights, their opponents, Buhimba United Saints, were nowhere to be found.
The trouble began earlier in the day when head coach Robert Mukasa, popularly known as Kiyenje, sensationally walked out on the club. His crime? Months of unpaid wages. Mukasa, who had only taken charge last December, managed to squeeze just six points from his short-lived tenure.
But the chaos didn’t stop at the dugout. Sources close to the struggling side confirm that the playing squad also refused to board the bus to Lugogo, staging a silent protest over mounting salary arrears. With no players and no coach, Buhimba simply never showed up for the 8PM kickoff.
Now, the ball is in FUFA’s court. League rules suggest NEC FC will be awarded maximum points and a default 3–0 victory. As for Buhimba, punishment could include a points deduction—a potentially fatal blow for a team already anchored at the bottom of the table. Relegation to the FUFA Big League now appears all but certain.
In an official statement, the Uganda Premier League Secretariat confirmed that Match No. 224 did not proceed due to Buhimba’s failure to appear. Match officials have filed their reports via the FIFA CMS system, but no sporting decision has been made yet.
The league secretariat is now awaiting official match reports and a written explanation from Buhimba United Saints FC (within FUFA Competitions Rules 2025 timelines)
The case has been forwarded to the FUFA Disciplinary Panel for a final ruling. Further updates will be released through official Uganda Premier League channels.
