The countdown is on to Uganda’s biggest pool spectacle the Nile Special National Pool Open — but this year, it’s not just about the shots on the table. It’s about precision, fairness, and raising the bar for the entire sport.

Ahead of the national cue-off later this week, the Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) has shifted its focus from glitz to groundwork. The association recently hosted an intensive umpires’ training workshop, signaling a deliberate effort to professionalize the sport and ensure that every match — from Nansana to Mubende — is played under the highest standards of integrity.

With two brand-new cars up for grabs and thousands of competitors expected across regional qualifiers, the stakes have never been higher. The Open, now a staple in Uganda’s sporting calendar, will serve as both a test of skill and discipline — qualities that organizers hope will define the future of pool in the country.

Venues such as Hashtag Nansana, Smart Bar and Lounge Kizinda, and Kumbuzi Terrace in Mubende are already buzzing with anticipation. Despite a late start to this year’s tournament, excitement remains high as players fine-tune their form for what promises to be a fiercely competitive edition.

In many ways, this year’s Open is more than a tournament — it’s a statement. A statement that Ugandan pool is ready to match passion with professionalism, one frame at a time.
