The Pearl of Africa T20 Series got underway in dramatic fashion on Thursday at the Entebbe Oval, as Uganda A narrowly fell to Namibia A by just two runs in a thrilling opening contest.

Namibia A won the toss and opted to bat first, putting up a competitive total of 145/6. Their innings was anchored by an explosive start from openers Zacheo Jansen Van Vuuren (43) and Jan Balt (48), who set a lively tone with a strong partnership. Though Uganda eventually broke through and removed both batsmen, Namibia’s middle order chipped in just enough to stretch the total beyond reach, setting a tricky target for the hosts.

In response, Uganda A launched their chase with confidence. Teenage sensation Anas Baig showed flashes of brilliance with a quickfire 21 off 19 balls, partnering with Simon Ssesazi, who stole the show with a composed and aggressive 66. Ssesazi’s dismissal with just seven balls remaining marked a turning point in the game.

Skipper Pascal Murungi then took charge, striking 38 from 26 deliveries to keep Uganda’s hopes alive. However, with the pressure mounting in the final over, he was caught attempting a risky run. Fred Acelam, who stepped in late in the innings, was trapped lbw by a clutch delivery from Namibia’s Max Heingo, sealing a narrow win for the visitors.

Despite the defeat, Uganda A showed plenty of promise and will look to bounce back in the next fixture against the same opponents. Meanwhile, Uganda’s senior team is set to begin their campaign on Friday against Nigeria, as the T20 series continues to deliver exciting action.
