NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya Football Association, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has broken its silence following the horrific scenes at Dandora Stadium on Sunday, promising “swift and severe” action after the Matchday 15 clash between Nairobi United and Gor Mahia was abandoned amidst violence and reports of a fan fatality.
In a strongly worded statement, FKF President Hussein Mohammed condemned the hooliganism that forced the match to be called off in the 58th minute with the score tied at 1-1.

“No Place for Hooliganism” – FKF
President Mohammed confirmed that the federation has officially initiated disciplinary proceedings. The matter has been referred to the FKF Judicial Bodies, who will determine the fate of the points and the penalties for the involved parties.
“I strongly condemn the acts of hooliganism witnessed today. This behavior will not be tolerated in Kenyan football,” Mohammed said in the statement. “We have initiated formal disciplinary processes, and those found responsible—be they clubs or individuals—will be held strictly accountable. We also stand in solidarity with our broadcast partners, Azam TV, following the senseless vandalism of their equipment.”

Clubs Speak Out
Both Nairobi United and Gor Mahia issued retaliatory statements as the fallout from the “Dandora Disaster” continues:
Nairobi United: The host club expressed “deep regret” for the injuries sustained by fans. They maintained that football is meant to unite communities and vowed to cooperate with criminal investigations to identify the “goons” who turned the stadium into a crime scene.
Gor Mahia: While the record champions are yet to fully quantify the damage, images of their vandalized team bus and the destroyed Azam TV Outside Broadcast (OB) van have sparked outrage.
Club officials are reportedly pushing for Nairobi United to be held liable for the security lapse under the “Strict Liability” rule.

A League in Crisis?
The incident has raised serious questions about the choice of Dandora Stadium for high-risk fixtures. Despite the 5,000-seater facility being a modern addition to the league, the lack of sufficient neutral zones and police presence has come under fire.
Beyond the 1-1 scoreline—cancelled out by Ovella Ochieng after Ebenezer Adukwaw’s opener—the league must now deal with the reality of widespread robberies and a tragic loss of life that occurred during the stampede.
