Uganda’s young table tennis sensations Joseph Sebatindira and Patience Anyango etched their names into continental history, emerging as African champions at the 2025 Africa Hopes Week and Challenge, hosted at the prestigious Sir Molade Okoya Thomas Indoor Stadium in Lagos.

The pair delivered flawless performances in the U-12 category, sweeping aside opponents from across the continent in a dominant showcase of emerging Ugandan talent.

Double Delight for Uganda
Sebatindira, who narrowly missed gold in last year’s edition in Botswana, returned stronger and more determined. He won all 16 of his matches, navigating a highly competitive 17-player round-robin format with skill, speed, and poise a perfect run that confirmed his rise to the top.

For Anyango, the tournament marked a triumphant title defense. She replicated her 2024 success with another undefeated campaign, this time sailing through 12 rounds without dropping a match, underscoring her status as a future star of the game.

Global Stage Awaits
The victories earned the duo coveted qualification spots for the World Hopes Week and Challenge, set to take place from October 13–19, 2025, at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, UK. It will be their first taste of global-level action and a chance to test their mettle against the world’s best.

Shifting Focus to Youth Championships
With their Africa Hopes triumphs behind them, Sebatindira and Anyango now pivot to their next assignment the 2025 African Youth Table Tennis Championships, running from July 27 to August 3 at the same Lagos venue.

They’ll compete in the U-15 and U-19 age groups, joined by teammates Parvin Nangonzi, Jemima Nakawala, Patra Nasirumbi, Ibrahim Mutesasira, and Sharif Nsereko, who have now arrived to complete Uganda’s full squad for the competition.

Africa Youth Cup Up Next
Immediately after the youth championships, five Ugandan players; Sebatindira, Anyango, Nakawala, Nsereko, and Nangonzi will stay in Lagos to contest the Africa Youth Cup on August 4 and 5. The back-to-back events offer another opportunity for Uganda to showcase the depth of its young talent on the continental stage.

With momentum on their side and eyes firmly set on more titles, Uganda’s table tennis future is not just promising it’s already arriving.
