Uganda will be represented in three upcoming continental table tennis competitions in Nigeria, as confirmed during a press briefing held on Saturday at the National Council of Sports (NCS) headquarters in Lugogo.

A team comprising seven young players and two coaches was officially flagged off and is set to fly the Ugandan flag at prestigious African events that stretch over two weeks of competition.

Rising Stars Head to Africa Heroes Week and Challenge

The first stop will be the Africa Heroes Week and Challenge, scheduled for July 20–25. Uganda will field Joseph Sebatindira and Patience Anyango, who are entered in the Under-12 category. This event serves as a developmental platform for young talent from across the continent and will be key in testing Uganda’s emerging prospects.

Full Squad Targets Youth Championship Glory

Following that, the team will compete in the Africa Youth Championship, which runs from July 27 to August 3. This tournament will feature Ugandan players in both the Under-15 and Under-19 categories. The squad for this event includes: Joseph Sebatindira, Patience Anyango, Sharif Nsereko, Ibrahim Mutesasira, Jemimah Nakawala, Patra Nasirumbi and Parvin Nangozi

The event is expected to offer stiff competition from top African table tennis nations, but Team Uganda is optimistic about making a strong impression.

All Eyes on Africa Youth Cup Finale

The trip will conclude with Uganda’s participation in the Africa Youth Cup, which will be held from August 4 to 5. All seven players are expected to take part in the tournament, capping off a packed schedule of high-level international play.

Officials from the Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) and the National Council of Sports expressed confidence in the players’ readiness and praised the effort put into youth development in recent years.

The trio of events represents a critical opportunity for Uganda’s table tennis hopefuls to gain exposure, experience, and ranking points on the continental stage. The team will be coached Alvin Katumba and Tendo Mary Balyewunya.
