Victoria University once again underlined their rugby supremacy after cruising to a dominant 31–10 victory over Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) Saints in the AUUS Varsity 7s grand finale held on Sunday at Makerere’s Graveyard grounds.

The win not only sealed a flawless, unbeaten run through the tournament but also delivered Victoria University their third consecutive Varsity 7s championship, a feat that cements their dynasty in university rugby.

While the Saints came into the final hoping to avenge back-to-back losses from previous editions, they were quickly overrun by a Victoria side firing on all cylinders. Daniel Otim was the star of the show, crossing the whitewash four times in a breathtaking display of speed, precision, and awareness. Each UMU mistake was swiftly punished, with Otim capitalizing to keep the scoreboard ticking.

A late penalty try further widened the gap after UMU’s Arthur Opio was sent to the sin bin for a foul on the unstoppable Otim, ending any hopes of a comeback.

Victoria’s success story goes beyond silverware. The players’ motivation is fueled by the promise of national exposure — the Varsity 7s doubles as a scouting ground for the Uganda Sevens team that will compete at the upcoming FISU World University 7s Championship in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

UMU settled for silver after another valiant effort, while UCU took bronze. Makerere University also impressed with a strong circuit campaign that saw them finish fourth overall after a narrow playoff win over Kyambogo. Nkumba University came fifth, Kampala International University sixth, and Mutesa I Royal University seventh.

Victoria University’s perfect run has now turned them from mere participants into a rugby powerhouse — one that every university side in Uganda will be chasing next season.
