League leaders Vipers SC maintained their grip at the top of the table despite being held to a goalless draw by second-placed Kitara FC in a tightly contested clash at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

In a match that had title-race implications, both sides showed caution and discipline, resulting in few clear-cut chances across the 90 minutes. Vipers, backed by a strong home crowd, looked lively early on, with Allan Okello Watambala delivering a teasing cross that was narrowly missed by Yunus Bady.

Kitara, however, proved dangerous on the break, with Jimmy Kalema coming closest in the first half after intercepting a loose pass and racing through on goal, only to fire off target.

Tempers flared as the game progressed, with several bookings handed out, including cautions for Tadeo Lwanga and Isa Muzeeyi Lumu before the break. Vipers also had penalty appeals waved away after a challenge on Milton Karisa.

The visitors made bold changes at the start of the second half, introducing fresh legs in search of a breakthrough, but Vipers remained compact at the back. Despite late substitutions from both benches, neither side could find the decisive moment.

The stalemate ensures Vipers stay top with 51 points, preserving a four-point cushion over Kitara, who remain firmly in second place as the title race continues to intensify.
