Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) is gearing up to assert its dominance on the African stage as the team prepares to kick off its campaign at the Continental Club Hockey Championships in Harare, Zimbabwe, this Saturday. Their first test comes against Namibia’s School of Environmental Health Hockey Club.
After claiming bronze at the 2023 edition in Malawi, the Ugandan champions are determined to go further this time. Speaking at the flag-off ceremony at the National Council of Sports (NCS) offices in Lugogo, team captain Jordan Mpiima emphasized that KHC has set ambitious targets.
“Our goal is clear — we want to improve on last year and aim for gold or silver,” Mpiima said, expressing confidence in the team’s readiness ahead of the tournament, which runs from January 24 to 31 at St John’s College.

The squad flying to Zimbabwe includes 18 players, five technical officials, and seven delegates, led by head coach Makthum Muziransa and Chef de Mission Sarah Arinaitwe. They depart on Thursday aboard Rwanda Air, ready to represent Uganda in the South African regional competition.
Meanwhile, UHA president Phillip Wafula lauded KHC’s consistency, noting that the club has represented Uganda at three consecutive continental championships without interruption. He called on the squad to exceed their previous bronze-medal finish and set a new standard for Ugandan club hockey.
With preparation complete and ambition high, all eyes will be on KHC as they embark on their continental quest this weekend.

Sounds like an exciting challenge for KHC! I’m really looking forward to seeing them compete in Harare.
