St. Lawrence University (SLAU) will today host Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) at Kavule, Mpigi District, in the decisive return leg of their Pepsi University Football League semifinal showdown.
The tie remains finely poised at 1-1 following a thrilling first-leg draw in Mbale City last week. SLAU took the lead through Patrick Ssekyanzi, but IUIU hit back with an equalizer from Calvin Otim in a match that showcased IUIU’s defensive grit and tactical discipline.
IUIU have been the tournament’s surprise package, arriving in Kavule unbeaten and boasting the league’s best defensive record conceding just three goals in nine matches. Their resilience and self-belief have fueled their historic run, with a spot in the final now just 90 minutes away.

However, they face a daunting task against a formidable SLAU side that has turned Kavule into a fortress. SLAU remain unbeaten at home in recent years, where they are known for their free-scoring style and raucous support.
Despite SLAU’s dominance at home, IUIU assistant captain Shikanga remains composed, stating his side is ready to rise to the occasion. On the other end, SLAU captain Ronnie Ziraba exuded confidence in his team’s ability to reach another final.
A win today would mark SLAU’s third final appearance, though they are still in pursuit of their elusive first title, having fallen short in their two previous final attempts.
For IUIU, this season already marks a historic high their first semifinal appearance in seven years of participation. Now, they stand on the verge of reaching the grand stage for the first time ever.
Kick-off promises fireworks as both teams chase glory and history.
