The Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) has confirmed two of the biggest events on its 2026 national competition calendar, unveiling the Seroma Open Table Tennis Championship and the Uganda Open Table Tennis Championship as key ranking tournaments that will shape the country’s national standings.

The announcement is expected to excite players, clubs, schools, institutions, coaches and officials as preparations begin for two major competitions that will offer valuable ranking points and increased opportunities for athletes to compete at the highest domestic level.

The first event, the Seroma Open Table Tennis Championship, will be held from September 4-6 at Seroma Christian High School in Mukono. Besides being an official UTTA-sanctioned ranking tournament, it will also double as the 2026 Central Region Table Tennis Championship, making it one of the association’s regional mega championships.

Competitors will battle in the Open Singles, Under-19 Singles, Under-13 Singles, Veterans Singles and Team events, with ranking points awarded across all eligible categories in line with the UTTA National Ranking Points System.

UTTA has also confirmed that accommodation will be provided free of charge for all participants during the championship, easing the financial burden on players travelling from different parts of the country.

Tournament regulations will allow eligible players to compete in a maximum of two singles events. Those eligible may choose any two among the Under-13, Under-19 and Open Singles categories, while participation in all three events will not be permitted. Veterans will also be eligible to compete provided they meet the required criteria, while team events will be conducted according to the tournament regulations.

Attention will then shift to the Uganda Open Table Tennis Championship, scheduled for December 4-6 at Nature Resort Maya. Like the Seroma Open, the tournament has been sanctioned as an official UTTA ranking competition and will award national ranking points in all eligible events.

The championship will feature the same categories, including Open Singles, Under-19 Singles, Under-13 Singles, Veterans Singles and Team events, with players again restricted to a maximum of two singles events from the three available age categories.

UTTA noted that the official prospectus for both tournaments, detailing registration procedures, entry fees and other competition regulations, will be released in due course.

The association also reminded players that ranking points earned during the 2025 Uganda Open Championship at Kabojja will expire on December 7, 2026, in accordance with the UTTA National Ranking Points System, making this year’s Uganda Open particularly important for players seeking to maintain or improve their national rankings.

With two major ranking events now confirmed, UTTA believes the tournaments will strengthen competition across all age groups while providing another platform for identifying and developing the country’s top table tennis talent.
