The 2026/27 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League season will usher in a new matchday experience after the football governing body approved a revised kick-off time for all league fixtures.
Beginning this season, every Women Super League match will start at 4:00pm, replacing the long-standing 10:00am schedule. The decision was reached following consultations between FUFA and its member clubs, who had consistently requested a change to improve the running of matchdays.
The development was confirmed during the FUFA Women Leagues Pre-Season Workshop and 2025/26 Season Review held at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba. The meeting, chaired by FUFA Club Licensing Committee chairman Jeremiah Mugerwa, brought together chief executive officers from clubs in both the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League and the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Elite League to evaluate the previous campaign and prepare for the new season.
FUFA Competitions Director Shawn Mubiru explained that the adjustment was made in response to feedback from clubs, with the governing body believing the later kick-off will create a more favourable environment for players, officials and fans while enhancing matchday organisation.
Beyond the change in fixture timing, FUFA is also seeking ways to ease the financial burden on women’s clubs. Mubiru revealed that the federation will continue engaging clubs affiliated to men’s teams to encourage the sharing of match venues.
According to FUFA, using the same stadiums as their male counterparts would significantly reduce venue-related expenses, one of the major operational challenges facing women’s football clubs.
The workshop also provided an opportunity for clubs and federation officials to review challenges encountered during the previous season, discuss licensing requirements and identify areas that require improvement before the new campaign gets underway.
FUFA described the engagement as constructive, noting that the annual pre-season workshop remains an important platform for strengthening collaboration with clubs and improving the organisation of both the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League and the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Elite League.
The changes are expected to contribute to the continued growth and professionalisation of women’s football in Uganda as the 2026/27 season approaches.
